jomon-aura — Handcrafted Kimono Remake Dresses from Nagasaki, Japan
Giving new life to heritage Japanese silk.
One dress at a time.
About
Japanese silk, reimagined for everyday life.
We transform vintage Japanese ceremonial kimonos — including the finest black mourning silk — into one-of-a-kind dresses. Each piece carries the memory of the original garment while finding a new place in the everyday world.
Every dress is handcrafted by a seasoned artisan in Minamishimabara, Nagasaki — a quiet town where the light comes in slow, and the work is never rushed.

Sustainability
Slow fashion, rooted in respect.
Every dress we make prevents a precious kimono from being discarded. Japan holds an estimated hundreds of millions of kimonos in storage, many of them unworn for decades — fine silk, quietly waiting.
By upcycling these garments into wearable pieces, jomon-aura honours both the material and the memory it carries. This is not fast fashion. It is the opposite.
